DoPlan connects your goals to your daily work — and gives you AI assistance not just before you start, but mid-session when you hit a wall.
Free tier available at launch · No credit card needed
Sound familiar?
You plan 14 hours into an 8-hour day. The list looks achievable until 2pm, then everything collapses. No one warns you until it's too late.
Mid-session, you're stuck. You switch to email, then Twitter, then it's 5pm and the task is exactly where you left it. There was no one to help you break through.
You set goals in January. By March, your daily tasks have nothing to do with them. There's no thread connecting what you do each day to what you said you'd build.
How it works
Tell the AI your tasks, your time budget, and your goals. It builds a time-blocked schedule that respects your work hours — and warns you before the day is impossible, not after.
When you hit a wall mid-session, open the blocker chat. Describe what's stopping you. The AI knows your task, your goal, and your session history — and gives you a specific path forward, not generic advice.
Define what success looks like when you create a goal. Every completed task records a Breakthrough against those criteria. Achieved goals close with a Win — a narrative of what you built and what you promised.
At the end of each session, record what you did, what blocked you, and what's next. Weekly and daily AI reviews analyze your actual time log and surface patterns you'd never notice manually.
You spent 40% of your week on API work but only 10% on the landing page — which is on the critical path for launch. Wednesday had 3 blocker events, all on auth-related tasks. Consider pairing or time-boxing those sessions next week.
Why DoPlan is different
AI stops at the door. When you sit down to work, you're alone. When you get stuck, there's nobody there.
AI stays with you through the whole arc — planning, execution, blockers, reflection, and closing the goal loop. And you choose where your data lives: cloud, local, or fully air-gapped.
100% trust to the system
DoPlan is built around one principle: you decide where your data lives and where your AI runs. Pick the level that matches your trust requirements — and change it any time in Settings.
Easiest to start. No install required.
Best for: people who want to try DoPlan without installing anything, or who work across many devices.

FAQ
Yes. All core features — task management, timer, time log, scheduling, conflict detection, Gantt chart, routines, and archive — work without any API key. AI features (day planner, blocker resolution, goal agent, weekly review, habit analysis) require an OpenAI key, which you configure in Settings. You can get a key at OpenAI's website; typical usage costs $0.01–0.05 per planning session.
DoPlan is an Electron desktop application available for macOS (DMG), Windows (NSIS installer), and Linux (AppImage). It runs fully offline — no internet connection required except when AI features make calls to OpenAI.
Not yet. The app includes a LAN REST API that lets you control timers and view tasks from your local network — an Android companion app uses this today. A proper mobile companion is on the roadmap. For now, DoPlan is a desktop-first tool — designed for the moments when you're sitting down to do focused work.
It depends on which privacy tier you choose.
Desktop (Free & Pro): All data is stored locally in Electron's userData directory on your machine — tasks, goals, time entries, session notes, and archives as SQLite and JSON files. Your time log is also exported as a daily CSV. For AI features, only the specific request context is sent to OpenAI (via your own key) or handled locally by Ollama. Nothing ever touches our servers.
Cloud (coming soon): Data is stored on our servers and synced across your devices. This is the trade-off for multi-device access and no-install convenience. See the privacy levels for a full comparison.
The Desktop app (Free and Pro) is a one-time purchase because it runs entirely on your machine — there are no servers for us to pay for and maintain on your behalf. Your AI usage goes directly to OpenAI or runs locally via Ollama at zero ongoing cost to us.
The Cloud tier (coming soon) is a subscription because it runs on our servers with managed AI — that has real ongoing costs that a subscription covers. If you want to avoid recurring fees and prefer to own your software outright, Desktop Pro is the honest choice.
It's a commitment tracking loop. When you create a goal, you define what success looks like (vision + success criteria). When you create a task, you attach it to a goal and write a specific success criterion for that task. When you mark the task done, the app asks: did you meet that criterion? Your answer is the Breakthrough record. When all tasks for a goal are complete, the AI drafts a Win narrative — a record of what you built vs. what you promised. It's designed to make you honest about whether you delivered, not just whether you showed up.
Ollama is an open-source tool that lets you run AI language models locally on your machine — no internet required. Once you install Ollama and download a model (like Llama 3 or Mistral), DoPlan connects to it on localhost. Every AI call — day planning, blocker resolution, weekly review — runs on your hardware and never leaves your machine.
Desktop Pro unlocks Ollama mode alongside the standard OpenAI key mode. You switch between them in Settings → AI Provider.
The core difference is where your data lives and who runs the AI.
In Cloud mode (coming soon), your tasks, time logs, and session notes are stored on our servers. AI is managed and included — no API key needed. You access DoPlan from any browser, but you're trusting us with your data.
In Local modes (Desktop Free & Pro), everything stays on your machine. AI goes to OpenAI via your own key — or runs locally via Ollama with no network at all. We never see your data. The trade-off is that you install the desktop app and manage your own AI key or Ollama setup.
Yes — the Desktop app works fully offline. All core features (task management, timer, time log, scheduling, conflict detection, Gantt, routines) run without any internet connection.
AI features in Local + Cloud AI mode require a connection to reach OpenAI. But in Air-gapped mode with Ollama, even AI features work offline — the model runs on your machine. This is the most private and most offline-capable configuration DoPlan offers.
Cloud mode (coming soon) requires an internet connection by design.
